War was a major part of America throughout the 60’s and there was no easy way to get out of it. Richard Nixon was a man who believed that a change in government would help America to break free from this war- he was that change.
President Nixon was elected into office in 1968 after discussing to his country about the importance of the Vietnam War as his main topic. He warned that an early withdrawal would show weakness in America to Russia and China. Also, this early withdrawal would put a negative affect on the Paris Peace Talks. Nixon fought for a calmer society and promised to his people peace with honor, by promising an end to this war. The treaty stated that he would cease fire and the end would take place four days later and then 60 days after the war the Northern Vietnamese would finally release all U.S. prisoners.
